IRENE A. FERNANDES

Irene Fernandez was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil while creating clothing for her dolls, developed a fascination with fabrics. During her adolescence and in college she made her own clothes.

After college she opened a small boutique and experimented with different techniques of fabric design. Irene brought a distinct personal touch to the pieces she created. Textile art then became a constant form of expression for her. The feel, the look, the texture, the pattern, the language of fabric, and the variety of design options and also the range of embellishments, that are not possible with other media, finally all came together in her unique clothing creations.

Spain, India and Argentina made a deep impression on her. Irene?s arrival in the United States exposed her to the American quilting tradition.

Irene has sold her work in craft shows in South Florida and participated in a solo exhibit at the local library. Her work with fabrics is very popular and admired by tourists visiting South Florida.

For Irene, working with textiles is to experience the pleasure of filling the fabric with ones own spirit. The joy of transforming fabric in free form patterns is exhilarating and just being brave expresses all the fire in her imagination and heart.
